Job Description
Riot engineers bring deep knowledge of specific technical areas but also value the opportunity to work in a variety of broader domains. As Software Engineers, we work with both new and current technology, creating innovative solutions to overcome high-volume obstacles and to deliver player value.
As a full-stack Software Engineer on the Payments team, you’ll build end-to-end systems that power Riot’s global commerce infrastructure. You’ll work across the stack—helping create secure, scalable, and responsive payment experiences that reach millions of players. You'll develop your expertise by working alongside experienced engineers, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of your team. With guidance from technical leads and senior engineers, you’ll ship features, resolve live issues, and evolve our systems with resilience and player impact in mind. You’ll report to the team’s Software Engineering Manager and collaborate with engineers, product managers, UX designers, and data partners to deliver value to our players.
Responsibilities:
Build and maintain full-stack features for player-facing payment flows and internal tools
Develop and operate backend services (e.g., APIs, event-driven systems) that support global payments infrastructure
Implement front-end features with attention to usability, responsiveness, and accessibility
Participate in design reviews, sprint planning, and team rituals to break down and estimate tasks
Write reliable, maintainable code and automated tests that meet technical and security standards
Participate in on-call rotations, resolve live issues, and contribute to postmortems through root cause analysis (RCA)
Collaborate with senior engineers and tech leads to grow your craft and impact
Identify opportunities to leverage AI/ML for improving system efficiency, automation, or development practices.
Required Qualifications:
2+ years of industry experience or a relevant advanced degree
Solid understanding of Java and JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals
Familiarity with front-end frameworks (e.g., React) and backend systems (e.g., REST APIs, messaging systems)
Experience writing unit/integration tests and using CI/CD tools to ship code (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
Exposure to cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS or GCP) and containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
Comfortable navigating ambiguous problems with guidance, and improving your team’s practices through collaboration
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
Awareness of security best practices, especially in handling sensitive data
Interest in digital payments, e-commerce, or operationally critical systems
Experience working in a service-oriented architecture or with microservices
Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform
Passion for games and player-focused experiences
For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, and decision-making that prioritizes your fellow Rioters, who are the customers of your work. Being a dedicated fan of games is not necessary for this position!
Our Perks:
Riot focuses on work/life balance, shown by our open paid time off policy and other perks such as flexible work schedules. We offer medical, dental, and life insurance, parental leave for you, your spouse/domestic partner, and children, and a 401k with company match. Check out our benefits pages for more information.
At Riot Games, we put players first. That mission drives every decision in our quest to create games and experiences that make it better to be a player. Whether you’re working directly on a new player-facing experience or you’re supporting the company as a whole, everyone at Riot is part of our mission. And just like in our games, we’re better when we work together. Our goal is to create collaborative teams where you are empowered to bring your unique perspective everyday. If that sounds like the kind of place you want to work, we’re looking forward to your application.
