Your Part in this Growth Story:
Stonebranch is searching for a Java engineer who’s interested in playing in the explosive IT automation market. We are seeking a Java engineer with hands-on experience building data migration and conversion tooling. This role focuses on moving customer data from legacy systems into our platform using Java-based tools and batch processing workflows.
The ideal candidate has worked on ETL-style data flows, understands the risks of large-scale data transformations, and is comfortable refactoring and maintaining existing codebases used in production migration projects. This role is best suited for engineers who enjoy building and maintaining Java-based migration and conversion tools rather than greenfield application development. You will work closely with legacy systems and real-world customer data, designing and validating transformation logic to ensure accurate, reliable migrations. This position is less focused on developing REST APIs or user-facing features, and more focused on correctness, maintainability, and problem-solving in complex data transition scenarios.
As a member of the Express Conversion Tool (XCT) development team, you will practice an Agile/SCRUM-based development methodology and adhere to contemporary development practices such as Test-Driven Development (TDD) and continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD). You will have the opportunity to contribute to all phases of the development life cycle, including planning, design, implementation, unit testing, and documentation.
This is a remote position, however, quarterly travel to our Global Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, USA or our European Headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany may be required. This position will report to the Team Lead for XCT.
Your Impact on The Organization:
Software Development & Implementation:
- Design, implement, extend, test, and document solutions that meet business specifications and adhere to industry best practices.
- Develop and enhance the XCT with focus on maintenance and code reusability.
- Contribute to the configuration, maintenance, and extension of DevOps methodologies, including automated builds, unit testing, and deployment, using open-source tools and frameworks such as Jenkins, GitLab, JUnit, SonarQube, and OWASP Dependency-Check.
Maintenance & Support:
- Perform maintenance and support tasks on existing solutions/products, applying technical expertise to investigate and resolve software issues (troubleshooting & bug fixing).
Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate with our Solution Engineers, specialized in legacy platforms and working in our transition projects, to clarify requirements and understand what needs to be modified in the tool according to each different project.
- Demonstrate a passion for excellence, ownership of delivered work, and accountability.
What You Will Bring to the Team:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) or a related discipline.
- 4+ years of experience using Java to process, transform, and validate data across systems.
- Written and verbal fluency in English is required.
Technical Skills:
- Hands-on experience building or maintaining data migration or system conversion tools.
- Practical understanding of ETL fundamentals (extracting from legacy systems, transforming data, loading into target platforms).
- Experience validating data correctness and handling edge cases during migrations.
- Strong analytical thinking and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Understanding and experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD), Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), and design patterns.
- Experience with Unix shell scripting.
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux/Unix platforms.
- Proficiency with version control systems, preferably Git.
- Experience with software documentation platforms such as Confluence and Markdown.
- Familiarity with JavaFX is a plus, particularly for internal tooling interfaces.
Additional Skills (Preferred):
- Exposure to a workload automation or job scheduling tool.
- Familiarity with Jenkins pipeline configuration is a plus.
