About the Role
As a Senior Software Systems Engineer, Federal Platforms, you will operate at the intersection of software engineering, systems behavior, and federal deployment constraints. This is not a pure DevOps role and not a feature-heavy backend role. Instead, you will focus on understanding how Keeper’s existing Java-based services behave in restricted, air-gapped environments and work with engineering teams to adapt, debug, and harden the platform accordingly. You will read and reason about application code, analyze system-level behavior, and help bridge gaps between product engineering and the realities of federal deployment environments.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and understand existing Java-based backend services to support federal deployments
- Adapt Keeper software to operate correctly in air-gapped or isolated environments
- Debug application behavior across constrained systems, including limited networking and restricted dependencies
- Collaborate with backend, security, and DevOps teams to resolve environment-specific issues
- Validate platform behavior under federal constraints related to security, availability, and compliance
- Assist with configuration, packaging, and deployment adaptations required for .GOV environments
- Support investigation and resolution of complex issues related to system behavior, dependencies, or configuration drift
- Contribute documentation and runbooks that enable repeatable, reliable federal deployments
- Act as a senior technical resource for questions related to software behavior, deployment constraints, and system interactions in regulated environments
- Assist with documentation, evidence collection, and remediation activities supporting ATO (Authority to Operate) processes
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional experience in software engineering or systems-focused engineering roles
- Experience running Kubernetes in high-compliance environments
- Strong ability to read, understand, and reason about Java backend code, even if not writing large new features
- Solid understanding of backend application architecture, services, and APIs
- Experience debugging software behavior across Linux-based systems
- Familiarity with how software behaves under constrained or restricted environments
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to collaborate across engineering, security, and operations teams
- Comfort working in regulated or compliance-driven environments
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Due to the role’s involvement in restricted government environments, candidates must be a U.S. Citizen
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting federal, GovCloud, or air-gapped deployments
- Familiarity with FedRAMP, DoD, or other regulated environments from an engineering perspective
- Experience working on platform adaptation, deployment hardening, or environment-specific software behavior
- Understanding of security-focused software systems such as PAM, identity, or access control platforms
- Ability to read and reason about infrastructure or deployment tooling without owning full DevOps pipelines
Benefits
- Medical, Dental & Vision (Inclusive of domestic partnerships)
- Employer Paid Life Insurance & Employee/Spouse/Child Supplemental life
- Voluntary Short/Long Term Disability Insurance
- 401k (Roth/Traditional)
- A generous PTO plan that celebrates your commitment and seniority (including paid Bereavement/Jury Duty, etc)
- Above market annual bonuses
