Our Software Engineering team is dedicated to building the world’s most predictive, inclusive, and fair interviewing products for our clients and technical candidates alike.
What you will do
As a Software Engineer (SWE1 or SWE2) at Karat, you will work to create new products that aid in Karat’s mission. Your work will be the bridge between users and technology, ranging from engineering work that harnesses modern technologies to complex product thinking to help us solve the intricate problems we encounter every day. Your work will span both technical and non-technical facets.
- Write clean, scalable services, frontend components, APIs, and backend code using modern languages and frameworks (GraphQL, Ruby on Rails, Node.js, TypeScript).
- Harness AI to develop code quickly, prototype changes, and work across the entire tech stack to implement features that users interact with every day.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Data Scientists, Designers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to build robust and easy-to-use products and customer-facing workflow tools.
- Help monitor our 24/7 interviewing machine and keep Karat's services available.
- Maintain the high technical quality bar Karat sets; develop effective processes to ensure our products have high-quality code and minimal defects.
- Remain flexible enough to handle the unknowns that come with fast company growth.
The experience you will bring
- Professional (post-grad, post-intern) experience writing code in at least one of the following programming languages, building web applications using modern best practices
- TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, React, or similar modern frameworks and languages
- Experience or strong interest in using AI and code generation tools to accelerate development
- Experience working on a collaborative engineering team developing products
- Eager to learn new technologies and dive into solving complex product problems with the team
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent cross-functional communication abilities; can translate technical concepts for diverse stakeholder
This position is only available to candidates residing in the following U.S. states: CT, Washington, D.C., FL, GA, IL, KS, MA, MD, MO, NC, NV, OR, PA, RI, SC, TX, VA, and WA. Compensation Varies by Geographic Location
At Karat, salary ranges for each U.S.-based position are determined by the employee's work location. We structure our compensation into geographic tiers based on market data and regional economic factors.

Base Salary (GeoLo 2)
$90,000 - $126,000 USD
Base Salary (GeoLo 3)
$80,000 - $112,000 USD
Base Salary (GeoLo 4)
$70,000 - $98,000 USD
