Overview of the role
GitLab is looking to hire a Senior Financial Analyst for its Strategic Finance team. This team is focused on strategic finance and special projects like long range bookings forecasting, new product launches, and pricing strategy. This team also manages the forecast process for GitLab’s business cases and works on how to structure complex data across various functions and design assumptions for bookings-related financial models. This role reports into a Senior Manager and will work closely with the Vice President of Finance and various business partners on financial analyses that drive GitLab’s earnings guidance and are presented to GitLab’s C-level executives and Board of Directors.
This role is a hybrid between a top-line Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and Strategy & Business Operations (BizOps) role, so will require the ability to spot opportunities and risks across GitLab’s business, develop hypotheses, pressure test inputs, forecast outputs and execute in-depth analyses to translate data into insights and make recommendations to leadership based on findings. The team collaborates cross-functionally with sales leaders, revenue operations, product, and marketing to perform financial and strategic analyses to support decision-making and accelerate growth.
This is the perfect role for an analytical team-player who wants to help grow new businesses from the ground up. The ideal candidate is scrappy, enjoys understanding metrics that drive the business, thrives in uncertainty and is capable of managing multiple projects at once.
What you'll do in this role
- Design long range financial model to forecast GitLab’s bookings in future fiscal years by ARR movement (new business, expansion, contraction, churn)
- Develop and design new forecasting methodologies for various bookings-related models
- Build out business cases for new product offerings and partnerships; assist in governance with stakeholders from Finance, Product, Sales Strategy, Marketing, and Engineering
- Analyze product related key performance indicators and develop new analyses on the health of the business and how adoption metrics impact bookings and GitLab’s future financial performance
- Forecast GitLab’s New Business ARR and Customer Counts by geography and segment and set pipeline targets for Marketing, Sales Development Reps, Account Executives, and Partners
- Study GitLab’s competitive landscape and market opportunity and work with incubation engineering to identify emerging areas of market demand
- Analyze GitLab’s unit economics across different customer segments and geographies
We're looking for
- Core foundational training in financial / economic theory, strategy, modeling, and running an organized process with multiple stakeholders
- 2-4 years of Strategic Finance, Investment Banking, PE/VC/HF, or Management Consulting experience
- A strategic thinker with broad business acumen and a passion for software / SaaS
- Self starter with an ownership mentality who thrives in ambiguity and delivers insights to executives in a thoughtful and persuasive manner
- You have financial modeling skills with the ability to distill complex analyses into structured outputs
