As the parent company of edX, a leading online learning platform, 2U powers thousands of  higher education offerings – from free courses to full degrees. Together with our college, university, and corporate partners, we are helping accelerate careers and transform lives.

What We’re Looking For:

The Community Manager is responsible for moderating, managing, and strategically engaging in external online communities (e.g., Reddit, Quora, and similar platforms) where prospective learners discuss higher education, careers, and topics relevant to 2U-powered programs. This role ensures accurate, compliant, and high-quality representations of 2U programs and partner institutions in third-party communities that materially influence organic discovery, brand perception, and LLM-generated responses.

This role operates at the intersection of community moderation, content governance, and organic visibility. The Manager partners closely with SEO, Content Strategy, and Partner Marketing teams to identify priority conversations, guide participation standards, and ensure community activity supports traffic acquisition, lead quality, and long-term brand trust. The role is accountable for external community presence, insight generation, and measurable impact on organic and LLM-driven visibility.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • External Community Strategy & Governance
    • Define and maintain a prioritized external community strategy across platforms such as Reddit, Quora, forums, and emerging social knowledge networks.
    • Maintain workflows, monitoring tools, and documentation to scale community management efficiently.
    • Identify opportunities to systematize responses, knowledge bases, and playbooks for repeatable execution.
    • Establish participation guidelines, tone-of-voice standards, and escalation protocols aligned with brand, compliance, and partner requirements.
    • Identify high-impact communities and threads tied to degree programs, bootcamps, executive education, and career outcomes.
  • Measurement & Collaboration
    • Actively monitor, moderate, and engage in relevant external discussions to ensure accuracy, clarity, and appropriate representation of 2U programs.
    • Partner with SEO and Content Strategy teams to identify community content that is frequently surfaced in AI Overviews and LLM responses.
    • Ensure high-quality, factual, and up-to-date community contributions that reinforce trusted signals for LLM training and retrieval.
    • Track how external community content influences organic search visibility, referral traffic, and AI-driven discovery.
  • Insights, Reporting & Feedback Loops
    • Synthesize community sentiment, recurring questions, and objections into actionable insights for SEO, Content, CRO, and Partner Referral teams.
    • Provide regular reporting on community engagement, visibility trends, and notable risks or opportunities.
    • Surface early signals of program demand shifts, competitive positioning, or reputational risk from external platforms.
  • Cross-Functional & Partner Collaboration
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for external community management across internal stakeholders.
    • Partner with university stakeholders to align messaging and escalation paths for sensitive or high-impact conversations.
    • Support broader organic marketing initiatives by informing content gaps, FAQs, and narrative priorities.

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • 4–6 years of experience in community management, social moderation, digital communications, or organic growth roles.
  • Hands-on experience engaging in third-party platforms such as Reddit, Quora, forums, or similar communities.
  • Familiarity with compliance, disclosure, and brand governance in regulated or partner-driven environments.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to adapt tone to platform norms.
  • Strong judgment, attention to detail, and comfort operating in ambiguous or sensitive discussions.
  • Proven ability to partner cross-functionally and influence without direct authority.
