About the team
Our Customer Platforms team builds innovative solutions that simplify complexity and drive informed decision-making across the customer facing platform at Xero.
About the role
As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you'll be instrumental in shaping the user-facing experience of our customer facing website. You'll work in a team focused on building and maintaining revenue generating initiatives, ensuring it is a secure, intuitive, and high-performing gateway for new customers and a seamless experience for existing ones.
We're looking for somebody who can be a role model for engineering excellence, supporting the team to grow their technical capabilities and improve development practices, ultimately owning outcomes that truly matter.
Any experience building applications using the following tools and technologies would be a huge plus: React, React Testing Library, Styled Components, Storybook, Jest, NextJS, Java11 or above, AEM/Apache Sling, NodeJS (ES6+), AWS (mainly S3, Lambda, API Gateway, CDK), Akamai (or other CDNs), CI/CD products (TeamCity, Github Actions, AWS Codebuild).
If you're passionate about solving complex problems with a human-centered approach, join us in making life beautiful for small businesses.
What you'll do:
- Stay hands-on: Dedicate at least 75% of your time to technical tasks, including code and design reviews, technical kick-offs, legacy code exploration, proof-of-concept development, and incident response.
- Influence: Use your experience to influence the technical direction for the team, mentor team members, and foster a culture of technical excellence.
- Drive innovation: Encourage experimentation and the adoption of new technologies to improve our products and processes.
- Collaborate effectively: Work closely with martech managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Solve complex problems: Tackle challenging technical problems and find innovative solutions.
What you'll bring:
- Proven experience as a Senior Engineer or Technical Lead; you'll come with hands-on experience across the entire development and implementation lifecycle, delivering software solutions at scale.
- Proficiency in back-end technologies, such as Node.js, including building and maintaining APIs and services.
- Proficiency in modern JavaScript frameworks, with a strong emphasis on React. A solid understanding of web performance, responsive design, CSS frameworks and Styled Components.
- Proven experience designing and building modern engineering stacks, ideally with hands-on experience working in AWS.
- Proven experience with on-call practices and deep understanding of monitoring and observability tooling to proactively manage, troubleshoot, and optimise production systems at scale.
- Proven skills as a technical leader, including but not limited to: mentoring other engineers, auditing codebases, driving engineering standards, and breaking down problems into digestible chunks.
