Job Description
About CoLab
At CoLab, we help mechanical engineering teams bring life-changing products to market years sooner.
CoLab is a cloud based platform for engineering design collaboration and review. We make it easy for subject matter experts (SMEs) across your business to access, evaluate, and comment on 2D drawings and 3D models. Our built-in AI peer checker, AutoReview, scans designs for common errors or non-compliance with your standards and guidelines. AutoReview creates markups and comments on your files, in context – just like a human checker.
With CoLab, human SMEs and AI work together to help you make better decisions and improve designs faster. We automatically capture knowledge from across your global business that would otherwise be buried in emails, spreadsheets, slide decks, and unknown locations in Sharepoint or PLM. Then, we make sure every lesson learned and every design guideline is applied exactly when it matters.
Companies like Johnson Controls, Komatsu, Schaeffler, and Polaris have launched products 40% faster, cut BOM costs by 50%, and reduced quality escapes by 15% in 1 year.
About the Role
This is not your average product design role. You’ll be the primary designer on our Enterprise Platform team, focused on building out the core admin and settings experience—an area that’s grown into a powerful product within a product.
You’ll be designing for complexity: permission hierarchies, cross-instance user groups, advanced settings, and integrations that bridge between CoLab and enterprise systems like PLM and CAD. These workflows directly impact our largest and most sophisticated customers, so clarity and precision are critical.
You’ll work closely with a cross-functional team of PMs and engineers and collaborate across development teams, ensuring a seamless handoff between admin, core product, and integrations.
This is one of the most technically demanding design areas at CoLab—and also one of the most important. If you love untangling messy systems, building elegant UX for technical users, and designing products that scale across global orgs, this is your playground.
Our Ideal Candidate
You’re a systems thinker who thrives on complexity. You’ve designed experiences for enterprise software before and know how to make powerful tools intuitive. You know how to ask the right questions, break down dense workflows, and advocate for usability without sacrificing functionality.
You’re confident working with technical stakeholders, from engineering teams to enterprise admins. You understand that great design isn’t just about the visuals—it’s about clarity, flow, and trust. And you know how to ship real product in close collaboration with PMs and engineers.
If your background is mostly in consumer apps or lightweight tools, this role probably isn’t the right fit. But if enterprise complexity excites you, you’ll do some of the best work of your career here.
Responsibilities
- Own the design of CoLab’s settings and admin experience—from UX architecture to UI polish
- Collaborate with PMs, engineers, and other designers to build cohesive, scalable experiences
- Lead user research and validation efforts for enterprise workflows
- Create design artifacts across the full fidelity spectrum—diagrams, wireframes, prototypes, and final visuals
- Ensure design consistency across the core product, admin, and integration areas
- Drive clarity and simplicity in a space that’s inherently complex
What you’ll need:
- 4+ years of experience in product design, with at least 2 in enterprise SaaS
- Experience designing complex workflows or admin tools
- Proficiency in Figma and comfort working in structured design systems
- Strong UX fundamentals and an obsession with usability
- Ability to communicate design decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Bonus: familiarity with systems like PLM, ERP, or enterprise access control
- Bonus: Experience using AI-powered design tools (e.g., Figma Make, Lovable, or similar) to accelerate ideation, iteration, and design workflow efficiency
The extra details:
Compensation: This is a full-time, permanent position with an attractive compensation package that includes a stock options package.
Benefits: This role offers an extended health and benefits package that includes unlimited paid vacation and 5% RRSP matching.
Remote/Hybrid Work: Our main office location is in St. John’s, NL where we offer hybrid and remote opportunities. This role has the flexibility to work from anywhere within Canada.
