Job Description

An overview of this role

As the dedicated Product Designer for our Runner Fleet team, you'll create intuitive management interfaces and dashboards that help platform administrators efficiently manage their build infrastructure at enterprise scale, identify performance bottlenecks, and reduce operational costs. This role positions you at the center of GitLab's competitive advantage as we compete with major players investing heavily in fleet management capabilities.

You'll collaborate with your triad team of Product Manager and Engineering Manager to solve complex data visualization challenges while ensuring enterprise customers can scale their development operations efficiently.

Your designs will serve some of the world's largest development teams managing thousands of runners and processing massive CI/CD workloads. Working closely with other CI/CD and the AI/ML teams, you'll design predictive insights and machine learning-powered recommendations that help customers optimize their CI/CD operations.

Here are some pages with more info:

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with your triad team to define UX goals, roadmap, and strategy that solve real user problems for DevOps teams

  • Engage directly with enterprise customers through calls and feedback sessions to understand their CI/CD infrastructure pain points and validate design solutions

  • Partner with AI/ML teams to design predictive insights features and machine learning-powered infrastructure optimization recommendations

  • Independently conduct solution validation of your designs with support from our excellent UX Research team

  • Communicate your design thinking through wireframes, prototypes, user flows, mockups, and high-fidelity visual designs

  • Engage with our user base and GitLab community to understand pain points in CI/CD infrastructure management

  • Contribute to our Design System, alongside the rest of the UX team and GitLab community

What you'll bring

  • Experience designing B2B/Enterprise software that serves complex workflows, admin interfaces, and SaaS products for mid to large organizations

  • Background in developer tools design, particularly DevOps, CI/CD, infrastructure management, and technical product interfaces

  • Demonstrated expertise in user research methods including usability testing, user interviews, and solution validation

  • Experience fostering collaboration across multiple product teams and stakeholders

  • Experience in data visualization design with knowledge of dashboards, metrics interfaces, and analytics UX

  • Proficiency in Figma including prototyping, design systems, component libraries, and collaborative design workflows

  • Familiarity with Git and understanding of CI/CD workflows and infrastructure concepts

  • Portfolio showcasing complex enterprise software design solutions with measurable user impact

About the team

Product Designers are highly collaborative roles at GitLab - you're part of the Product Design org, you report into a Product Design Manager, but work to embed yourself into the feature team that you're working on. You will become an expert in this area, and eventually the broader GitLab product.

The Runner Fleet team builds visibility and management tools for the infrastructure that processes millions of CI/CD jobs monthly. We solve complex developer productivity challenges: how do you help platform administrators efficiently manage thousands of runners? How do you surface actionable insights from massive amounts of CI data? How do you reduce operational overhead for enterprise-scale build infrastructure?

We recently shipped the Fleet Visibility Dashboard, giving customers unprecedented insight into their CI pipeline performance. We're now planning for AI-powered predictive insights, advanced analytics capabilities, and cross-stage integrations that will define the future of CI/CD management.
