As the Director of Power Delivery Engineering, you will lead the technical strategy and execution of high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) substation projects from interconnection through design and delivery. This role requires deep expertise in power systems engineering, project management, and utility coordination. You will oversee interconnection processes, manage relationships with utilities and consultants, and ensure compliance with interconnection requirements. Additionally, you will provide leadership in contractor oversight, procurement support, and construction planning for substation and transmission infrastructure.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead a team of subject matter experts in high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) substation projects, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with project goals.
- Review design documents, bid packages, and project schedules to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, proactively identifying and resolving potential conflicts or installation issues.
- Drive the implementation of engineering standards and cost-effective design alternatives, keeping stakeholders informed of any project impacts or changes.
- Evaluate construction documents for completeness, accuracy, and constructability.
- Facilitate effective pre-construction planning sessions to align teams and mitigate risks.
- Provide ongoing design and installation support, including responding to RFIs from on-site staff, EPC contractors, and project management teams.
- Collaborate with operations engineering and site development teams to review project proposals, advising on schedules, constraints, and execution strategies.
- Ensure construction activities align with engineering design through preparatory meetings and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes.
- · Manage engineering service providers and associated contracts to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.
- Support the oversight and coordination of general contractors and their contractual obligations.
- Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, balancing priorities and ensuring successful execution across all phases.
Required Skills
- 10+ years’ experience in construction management, design, design management, or relevant field
- 7+ years’ experience with substation design and/or substation construction
- Experience leading teams
- Experience with high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) substations
- Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer (preferred but not required)
$180,000 - $210,000 a year
