About the Role
We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Client Portal Team, which powers the core platform across our Client Portal Universe like Communities, Kollab, Courses. This team of 25+ engineers are responsible for delivering a reliable, secure, and high-performance infrastructure that handles millions of events ranging from checkouts, notifications, video streaming, networking — from robust platforms for creators/educators for learning courses;think Coursera/Udemy, connecting like minded folks into cohesive community where they can interact among each other, learn and become part of a common tribe, taking courses and streaming Petabytes of video data.
Currently these products empower thousands of creators with 300k+ MAUs checking out thousands of courses, communities on web and mobile platforms. Businesses can offer whitelabeled customised mobile apps to customize the experience of their users according to their branding bringing more power into the hands of creators.
As a Staff Engineer, you’ll lead the technical direction of the platform, solve complex distributed system and frontend engineering problems from web to Mobile Apps and mentor 25+ engineers across squads. You’ll partner closely with PMs, designers, infra, and security teams across 5+ products to drive long-term architecture, elevate engineering standards, and ensure seamless user experiences at scale.
Responsibilities
1. Own architecture and scaling decisions for core Client Portal components:
Authentication and access management
Secure cross-platform identity
Real-time systems for notifications and chat
High-throughput video streaming infrastructure
Define and maintain infrastructure patterns and internal tooling to enable fast, secure, and consistent product development.
Lead cross-cutting initiatives to improve:
System reliability
API latency
Workflow throughput
2. Work hands-on with backend technologies:
NestJS, Firestore, MongoDB, PostgreSQL
Redis, Queuing Systems
Service Mesh-based microservices
3. Enhance observability and resilience:
Monitoring and alerting using Prometheus/Grafana
Incident response strategies
Leverage LLMs and AI tools to:
Write, refactor, test, and debug code efficiently
Implement guardrails to reduce hallucinations and increase reliability
4.Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure:
Data integrity
Access control
Compliance standards
Mentor and guide high-performing engineers to foster technical growth and excellence.
Stay up-to-date with AI/LLM advancements, software development best practices, and distributed architecture patterns — and share insights with the team.
5.Participate in:
Design reviews
Deep technical dives
On-call rotations to uphold a culture of operational excellence
Requirements:
8+ years of backend engineering experience, including designing fault-tolerant systems and working on high-scale platforms. Deep expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous job processing. Proven experience optimizing availability, performance, and reliability in real-world systems under load. Strong experience with relational and NoSQL data models (especially with complex temporal data).Familiarity with monitoring, SLOs, and root-cause analysis in production environments.4+ years experience in any Frontend ecosystems (React/Vue/Angular) and deep understanding of Design language and systemsFamiliarity with DNS routing, SSL Certificate Provisioning and Load Balancing to enable a secure, multi-tenant environment. Familiarity with hallucination mitigation strategies (e.g., code constraints, test scaffolding, embeddings, context injection).Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skillsA pragmatic, hands-on leader who balances long-term vision with iterative execution
