The Sr. Director of Engineering for Identity Security Platform Infrastructure will lead the organization responsible for the vision, strategy, and delivery of 1Password’s identity, authentication, authorization, provisioning, credential management, and trusted execution infrastructure platforms.

What you build and operate powers 1Password’s Identity Security Infrastructure, securing human, machine, and agent identities, enabling their secure, private, and dynamic access to digital resources.

This leader will translate 1Password’s business and product strategy into an actionable roadmap, delivering API-driven platform infrastructure and systems that enable all 1Password developers to build and operate effectively. The ideal candidate combines deep technical experience in cloud-scale and IAM infrastructure, strong organizational and people leadership, and the ability to work effectively across Product, Engineering, Security, and Customer Success.

What to expect:

• Lead and scale the Identity Security Platform Engineering organization: Set and align vision and strategy with company priorities; build and organize teams; partner cross-functionally to establish roadmaps; and own delivery execution and post-delivery operations for 1Password’s Identity Platform cloud services and APIs.

• Deliver secure, scalable, highly resilient API-first services: Drive the technical direction and outcomes for identity, authentication, authorization, provisioning, credential management, and trusted execution enclaves infrastructure.
  Enable high-quality decision-making by balancing data, speed, judgment, and risk, while empowering teams to own outcomes.

• Operationalize the Identity Platform Infrastructure “as a service” model: Partner deeply with internal builders to deliver highly valued, friction-free services at global scale. Ensure disciplined, anti-entropy operations through strong observability, continuous improvement mechanisms, and thoughtful resource investment.

• Technical leadership and excellence: Uphold high standards for architecture, reliability, performance, and security; lead and influence technical design and implementation reviews across the organization.

• Cross-functional partnership: Collaborate closely with Product Management, Security, and Product Engineering to prioritize investments and accelerate delivery of end-customer value.

• Grow and develop talent: Recruit, mentor, and retain top engineering talent; foster a culture of curiosity, innovation, ownership, and business impact; and develop leadership depth by coaching senior leaders and proactively shaping future workforce capabilities.
  

What we're looking for:

• Experience: 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in senior engineering leadership roles.

• Technical expertise: Strong background in building and operating cloud-native, cloud-scale platform and infrastructure services. Experience modernizing monolithic systems into API-first, cohesive, horizontally scalable, and resilient services is preferred.

• Security acumen: Solid understanding of modern identity, secrets management, and access control patterns is preferred.

• Execution and delivery: Proven ability to lead organizations through platform transformation while delivering reliable infrastructure services to internal customers.

• Cross-functional collaboration: Demonstrated success partnering with Product, Security, Engineering, and Customer Success teams.

• Communication: Ability to connect technical strategy to business outcomes and inspire teams around both near- and long-term goals.

• People leadership: Track record of building, scaling, and operating diverse, high-performing engineering organizations and career ladders.
  

USA-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $272,000 USD and $408,000 USD, plus immediate participation in 1Password's benefits program (health, dental, 401k and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.

Canada-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $254,000 CAD and $381,000 CAD, plus immediate participation in 1Password’s generous benefits program (health, dental, RRSP and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
