We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer experienced in Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq, Redis, and PostgreSQL to enhance mission-critical digital services for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Experience with the VA’s technical ecosystem—such as their GitHub standards, VA Platform One, and VA design or API frameworks—is highly valued.

 

What you’ll bring:

  • Extensive expertise in Rails for building and maintaining scalable backend services.
  • Deep experience with Sidekiq for background job processing and Redis for caching and queue handling.
  • Strong ability in PostgreSQL schema design, query optimization, and database performance tuning.
  • Proven track record diagnosing and resolving production issues to improve system reliability and uptime.
  • Familiarity with the VA ecosystem—especially VA Platform One, enterprise GitHub practices, VA.gov standards, or DevSecOps models— is a plus.  
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage dependencies, and deliver in complex environments.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

United States Wage Range: $120,000 – $155,000
