Job Description

Location of work: ACT

Working arrangements: Hybrid working arrangements (i.e. a combination of onsite attendance at their Canberra office for at least 3 days a week and remote working) will be considered at the discretion of the Hiring Manager

Length of contract: 12 months

Contract extensions: 1 x 12 months

Security clearance: Must be able to obtain Baseline security clearance

Rates: $100 - $140 per hour (inc. super) (rate will be determined and considered based on the candidate's level of skills and experience)

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) is undertaking a broader program of work to uplift digital accessibility maturity across its online services, applications and supporting platforms. Digital services are provided by several branches, each with its own approach to accessibility, technology setups, and development methods.

DEWR is seeking a Cloud Software Engineer to meet emerging needs of the Department and business areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary delivery team to participate in agile ceremonies including planning and estimation;
  • Write clean, testable, maintainable and scalable code that meets the stated acceptance criteria;
  • Collaborate with team members and other delivery teams to achieve outcomes; and
  • Develop documentation throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC).

Essential Criteria

  1. Demonstrated experience working in a small specialist team or multi-disciplinary team as a software engineer (developer) - cloud engineer in an enterprise-class environment delivering a range of enterprise IT systems based around Microsoft Azure.NET cloud and on-premises technologies, including integration of the two.
  2. Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced agile delivery environment to produce high quality software using an enterprise toolset and delivery framework.
  3. The ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person and via Video Conferencing.
  4. Experience with any of the following:
    1. .NET, SQL, C# or other object-oriented programming language
    2. Microsoft Web API / REST Architecture
    3. CI/CD Practices

Desirable Criteria

  1. Previous experience in a Government Agency is desired, including the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
  2. Experience with any of the following:
    1. JavaScript / Typescript, Vue3 or other frontend frameworks
    2. Bash or PowerShell scripting
    3. Experience with source control (e.g. GIT)
    4. Unit / Automated testing
    5. Provisioning and managing cloud technology or infrastructure as code
    6. Experience provisioning Azure Data environments
    7. Experience with Azure DevOps pipeline automation
