Job Description
About Us
Since 2013, we've been building a CRM that gets out of the way and helps teams sell more, faster. No manual data entry, just communication-first sales software designed to help SMBs succeed and scale.
We're bootstrapped and profitable - that means we answer to our customers and play by our rules. We're proud of our ~100 person, 100% remote team focused on building Close so that no small, scaling business fails because it can't figure out sales.
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Finance + Data Team own the technical infrastructure that makes all our internal business systems both connected and intelligent. This is an unconventional but high-impact role at the intersection of systems, data, product analytics, GTM analytics and AI.
You Will
Spend your first few months getting hands-on with our data infrastructure, diagnosing what’s broken, and establishing the foundation everything else builds on.
Audit and rebuild our event tracking foundation so every downstream system is working from a single source of truth. You’ll verify our top of funnel tracking, fix what’s misconfigured, and ensure we’re tracking the right events the right way
Collaborate with Product and Engineering on product analytics instrumentation, providing input on naming conventions, event schemas, and validation while owning the GTM-side tracking implementation to ensure our data is clean and queryable from day one
Diagnose and fix the broken handoffs between our GTM tools (Segment, Customer.io, as our CRM, our warehouse)
Map the full GTM data architecture and create the technical documentation that becomes the team’s operating reference, identifying what’s redundant, what’s broken, and what should be built next
Once the foundation is solid, you’ll shift from fixing to building: creating the automation and intelligence layer that makes our GTM teams faster and smarter.
Build automation that saves Sales and Marketing teams hours every week
Build AI-enabled tools that surface business intelligence in the flow of work, lead scoring models, Slack bots that answer data questions, or dashboards that update themselves. These aren’t prototypes; you’ll ship tools the team relies on daily
Own the technical implementation of our GTM tools
Maintain the infrastructure that powers product analytics for the entire company
This is where the role gets really fun. You’ll define how Close uses AI internally to operate, decide, and scale.
Create AI agents that can generate business reviews, answer complex questions across our data, and surface insights that would otherwise require a human analyst and a week of work
Build self-serve data tools that enable stakeholders to get insights without waiting for someone to build them a dashboard, from natural language queries over our warehouse to automated reporting that adapts to what leadership needs
Integrate AI into our core GTM workflows, embedding predictive models, intelligent alerts, and agent-driven automation and operational systems that run the business day-to-day
You Are
A Senior engineer with 5+ years of experience in a hands-on software engineer, data engineer, or systems engineer role with a proven ability to build scalable systems at the intersection of data, business, and product.
Full-stack working experience building backend Python services and frontend TypeScript/JavaScript apps for data analytics and back office applications.
Working knowledge of product analytics instrumentation in SaaS apps.
Querying and implementing ETL processes across disparate databases
Familiar with modern cloud data stacks (e.g., dbt, Fivetran, Snowflake)
Experienced with implementing and managing product analytics tools (e.g., Amplitude, Mixpanel, Segment)
Experienced with (or excited by!) AI and statistical or other machine learning concepts like predictive modeling, AI agents, and automation to enhance workflows and decision-making.
Comfortable owning the full lifecycle: from scoping business needs to designing, building, and delivering and maintaining technical solutions. While you’ll work closely and collaboratively with the Finance + Data team, we expect you to be your own Product Manager in many ways. You’ll interface with different teams, scope the work that solves their problems, and translate it to technical deliverables.
Excited by and attuned to the mechanics of modern SaaS businesses. You’ll need to understand and deeply integrate yourself into various functions at Close to best empower our team.
Driven by a strong sense of accountability and ownership. As a pioneer in this role and the only dedicated Engineer working on these problems, you’ll be responsible for the implementation, effectiveness, and maintenance of your work.
