Who We Are:

Billigence is a boutique data consultancy with global reach, helping organisations transform the way they work with data. We specialise in delivering high-impact solutions across Data Management, Data Governance, Cloud Data Platforms, AI Enablement, and Advanced Analytics.

Headquartered in Sydney, with offices across the UK, Europe, and APAC, Billigence partners with organisations to design and implement modern data capabilities that drive better decision-making and business outcomes.

Our teams work on complex, enterprise-scale transformation programmes across industries including retail, financial services, telecommunications, and technology.

About the Role

Billigence is seeking a Senior Data Governance Architect to support a major enterprise data transformation programme within a leading retail organisation.

This role sits at the intersection of Data Architecture, Data Engineering, and Data Governance, with a particular focus on establishing governance capabilities across a modern Azure and Databricks data platform.

The successful candidate will play a key role in implementing governance frameworks, metadata management, lineage, and access controls, while working closely with both technical and business stakeholders.

A key focus of this role will be driving the implementation and adoption of Databricks Unity Catalog, helping the organisation establish robust governance practices across its cloud data estate.

What we are looking for:

  • Design and implement enterprise data governance capabilities across Azure and Databricks environments.
  • Lead the implementation and optimisation of Databricks Unity Catalog.
  • Define and implement metadata management, data lineage, and data catalogue capabilities.
  • Design governance operating models, standards, policies, and controls.
  • Configure and integrate governance tooling including Collibra and Microsoft Purview.
  • Develop business, technical, and end-to-end lineage frameworks.
  • Define data ownership, stewardship, classification, and access management processes.
  • Partner with Data Engineering, Architecture, Security, and Business teams to embed governance across the platform.
  • Support stakeholder workshops, requirements gathering, and governance adoption activities.
  • Produce architecture documentation, governance frameworks, solution designs, and implementation roadmaps.
  • Support governance best practices across data quality, metadata management, security, and compliance.

What you need:

  • Strong experience working within Azure data environments.
  • Proven experience with Databricks and modern cloud data platforms.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and managing Databricks Unity Catalog.
  • Experience designing and implementing enterprise data governance frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of metadata management, data lineage, and data catalogue solutions.
  • Experience engaging with both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of data architecture and cloud data platform design.
  • Experience defining governance controls, standards, and operating models.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
