Job Description

ABOUT EMPOWERLY

Empowerly is a fast-growing ed-tech company on a mission to empower students to become the most successful version of themselves. Our platform combines expert college counseling with proprietary tools like the Empowerly Score™, offering families a 360° view of their child’s college readiness across academics, essays, and extracurriculars.

We’ve raised $30 million from top-tier investors including Goodwater Capital, Conductive Ventures, FJ Labs, Scrum Ventures, Translink Capital, Azure Capital Partners, and Spero Ventures.

Empowerly is a founder-led company that has grown through SEO-driven performance marketing. We’ve now invested heavily in scaling a diversified GTM motion across Sales, Events, B2C, Partnerships, and Business Development and we’re looking to grow our revenue by 150–200%+ in the coming phase. This role will be critical to helping us make that leap.
We operate on a remote-first basis, building a team of individuals who excel in remote environments and are passionate about making high-quality college counseling accessible to all students, regardless of their background or location.

THE ROLE

    • We’re hiring a Senior Financial Analyst to partner directly with the CFO and elevate how financial insight drives company decisions.
    • This is not a reporting role; this is a thinking role.
    • You will take ownership of board-ready financial materialsBuild and refine three-statement financial modelsTranslate financial data into strategic recommendations.
    • You will identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities across the business.
    • You will provide clear, actionable solutions—not just summariesYou’ll operate as a “mini CFO in training” with exposure to how capital moves, how boards think, and how financial strategy shapes company trajectory.

1. Board & Executive Reporting

    • Own preparation of board financial materials (not just the finance slides—the narrative)
    • Align financial storytelling across departments
    • Ensure clarity, consistency, and strategic framing in presentations
    • Anticipate what the board will ask before they ask it

2. Strategic Financial Analysis

    • Deep-dive into P&L performance, margins, refund rates, CAC, operational efficiency
    • Move beyond “what happened” to “why it happened” and “what we should do about it”
    • Identify mitigation strategies and recommend changes
    • Build models that help guide pricing, hiring, and capital allocation decisions

3. Forecasting & Modeling

    • Maintain and evolve 3-statement models (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow)
    • Lead forecasting cycles
    • Stress-test assumptions and scenario planning
    • Improve financial visibility across the company

4. Operational Finance & Light Accounting Oversight

    • Support balance sheet forecasting
    • Track commissions and payouts; coordinate with payroll
    • Monitor financial controls once systems are in place
    • Ensure financial accuracy across reporting cycles

WHAT MAKES THE ROLE DIFFERENT

    • Our data team pulls numbers. You will question them.
    • If Operations reports a 5% refund issuance rate, you’ll ask:
    • Why are refund requests at 10%?
    • What’s driving that number?
    • What’s the financial impact?
    • What mitigation strategies should we implement?
    • You’re not here to explain the past.
    • You’re here to improve the future.

WHO YOU ARE

    • Bachelor of Science in Finance; and MBA strongly preferred
    • 5–9 years of experience in FP&A, strategic finance, investment banking, consulting, or high-growth VC-backed companies
    • Strong exposure to board-level reporting and investor expectations
    • Deep understanding of 3-statement modeling
    • Experience building financial structure inside growing organizations
    • Able to operate independently with minimal instruction
    • Strong communicator who can translate complexity into clarity
    • High ownership mindset and comfort working in a demanding, high-accountability environment
    • West Coast time-zone preferred.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

    • The CFO can say, “There’s something off here,” and you find it.
    • Board materials are elevated, polished, and strategically aligned.
    • Financial analysis consistently leads to operational improvements.
    • You evolve from analyst to future finance leader.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

    • This role has a path toward Finance Manager or broader strategic finance leadership as the company grows.
    • We are looking for someone who wants to build… not just execute.

    • Final candidates will complete a project that includes:

    • Reviewing a three-statement model.
    • Creating a board-style financial presentation.
    • Identifying strategic insights and recommendations.
    • Presenting findings to a panel interview team.
    • We’re not looking for perfection.
    • We’re looking for how your brain works.
    • If you’re someone who thrives on solving financial puzzles, building structure where it doesn’t exist, and turning insight into impact. we’d love to meet you.
$110,000 - $160,000 a year
The benefits package includes health/dental/vision insurance, paid vacation and sick days, and a 401k. In addition to our tangible benefits, Empowerly provides our people the opportunity to learn and grow within a supportive team environment.
