Job Description
We’re VOID Interactive, the kick-ass team behind the best-selling FPS game Ready or Not, which has sold over 13 million copies across all platforms. We’re a fully remote, 70+ person studio made up of seriously talented individuals from all over the world who love games and creating exceptional experiences for players.
As our Senior Level Designer, you will own the creation of large-scale, engaging game spaces that support strong gameplay flow, clarity, and performance. You’ll take levels from block-out to final polish while working closely with artists, designers, and engineers to ensure seamless integration and technical reliability. As a key member of the team, you’ll help guide junior designers, contribute to clear workflows and best practices, and drive the overall quality and consistency of our environments.
What you’ll do
- Design high-quality 3D game spaces and large-scale environments that meet the artistic, technical, and gameplay requirements of the project.
- Craft engaging, readable, and navigable level layouts, ensuring strong pacing, encounter design, player flow, and visual composition.
- Own entire levels from concept to final implementation, including block-outs, scripting, optimisation, and polish.
- Collaborate closely with environment artists, technical artists, systems designers, and engineers to ensure seamless integration of assets, mechanics, and performance needs.
- Develop, maintain, and improve level-design pipelines, documentation, and best practices, supporting scalable and efficient world-building processes.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior designers, offering detailed feedback, conducting reviews, and helping establish high-quality standards across the design team.
- Implement, test, and iterate levels directly in-engine, validating performance, gameplay feel, navigation, and technical stability. Experience with Unreal Engine integration is a major advantage.
- Support the broader design and art teams through strong communication, consistent delivery, and adaptability within a fast-paced, evolving production environment.
What we’re looking for
- 3–6 years of professional experience in level design, with at least 5+ years designing 3D game spaces or large-scale environments.
- At least one shipped title as a level designer or world designer.
- Expertise in creating optimized, readable, and visually compelling level layouts, with a strong understanding of player psychology, pacing, and gameplay flow.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams—including artists, engineers, and designers—to deliver cohesive gameplay experiences.
- Experience guiding and supporting junior team members, demonstrating leadership, strong communication, and a high sense of ownership.
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach, combined with strong problem-solving skills and a drive for continuous improvement.
- Comfort working in a remote-first, fast-moving production environment, with the ability to adapt to shifting project needs.
Bonus points if you have
- Experience working in Unreal Engine 5, including world partitioning, blueprint scripting, and level streaming.
- Experience designing grounded, realistic, and visually distinct urban environments.
Please Note:
For Irish residents or citizens, this role is offered as a full-time employee position.
For applicants based outside of Ireland, the role will be offered on a contractor basis. We are a remote-first company and are committed to hiring the best candidate for the role, regardless of where you are located. If you’re outside our company’s home base, that’s okay with us. Salary is determined by the location of the applicant, market rates, and relevant experience.
