Job Description

About SewerAI Corporation

SewerAI is transforming underground infrastructure management through AI-powered inspection and risk analysis. Our platform helps contractors, engineering firms, and utilities unlock valuable insights from sewer inspection data—turning hours of manual video review into actionable intelligence in minutes. After doubling our customer base over the past year, we’re now entering an exciting phase of accelerated growth.

We're looking for a Technical Lead Manager to own and drive product delivery on our SewerAI platform — an automated sewer inspection analysis and asset management product used by municipalities and contractors across the country. This is a deeply product-focused leadership role: you'll partner closely with Product and Design to shape what we build, rally a team of engineers around shipping it, and still get your hands dirty in the codebase. You'll be the connective tissue between product strategy and engineering execution, ensuring we're building the right things, building them well, and shipping them fast.

This is not a "managers who used to code" role. You'll be expected to participate in architecture decisions, review code, unblock engineers technically, and contribute code yourself — all while coaching and growing a high-performing engineering team.

What You'll Do

  • Own Product Delivery End-to-End: Partner with Product and Design from discovery through delivery. Translate product vision into engineering plans, set priorities, and drive execution with a bias toward shipping.

  • Lead & Grow a Team: Manage a team of full-stack and backend engineers. Run 1:1s, give direct feedback, support career growth, and build a culture of ownership and accountability.

  • Shape the Product: Be a strong voice in what we build, not just how. Challenge product requirements, advocate for the user, identify gaps, and push for simplicity and impact.

  • Drive Technical Quality: Set engineering standards for your team. Participate in design reviews, ensure architectural decisions hold up, and keep the codebase healthy.

  • Ship with Urgency: Remove blockers, cut scope ruthlessly when needed, and keep the team focused on outcomes over output. You care about what's in production, not what's in the backlog.

  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with Product, Design, Data Science, and Infrastructure to coordinate across the organization and ensure your team has what it needs.

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of full-stack development experience

  • 2+ years of engineering management or tech lead experience with direct reports

  • Strong TypeScript/JavaScript and React skills

  • Backend experience with Node.js, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, and RESTful API design

  • Cloud deployment experience (AWS preferred) with Docker and CI/CD

  • Deep product empathy — you think in terms of user problems, not just technical problems

  • Strong product instinct — you can articulate why something should or shouldn't be built

  • Bias toward action — you'd rather ship and iterate than plan endlessly

  • Experience recruiting, interviewing, and growing engineers

Nice-to-Have

  • Geospatial data / GIS systems

  • Computer vision or image processing

  • Temporal.io or workflow orchestration

  • Data analytics (ClickHouse, dbt)

  • Municipal / infrastructure domain knowledge

  • Experience leading product-focused engineering teams in a startup

Our Stack

  • Monorepo (Turborepo + npm workspaces), React + TypeScript frontend, Fastify APIs, Python data services

  • PostgreSQL, PostGIS, Prisma ORM

  • Temporal.io for workflow orchestration

  • AWS (Lambda, ECS, S3, RDS), Docker, CI/CD

What You'll Gain

  • Meaningful work on infrastructure that impacts communities nationwide

  • Cutting-edge tech at the intersection of AI, geospatial analysis, and web development

  • Direct influence on product direction and company trajectory

  • Leadership growth in a fast-moving, collaborative environment

This role is for someone who gets energy from shipping great products and making their team better. If you care as much about the "what" and "why" as the "how," we'd love to talk.

Compensation: $160,000-$180,000

Benefits include:

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Basic Life, 401(k), and more

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Tools you need to get the job done

  • Competitive salary and potential equity-based remuneration
