Position Summary
The Consulting Professional Development Manager (PDM) is responsible for the professional development, capability readiness, and long-term people health of FoodChain ID’s consulting organization. This role ensures the consulting team can scale predictably by owning recruiting readiness, performance consistency, onboarding effectiveness, and career stewardship across the consulting population.
The PDM does not manage project delivery or delivery outcomes. Instead, the role focuses on building and sustaining a capable, stable consulting workforce by providing consistent people management, professional development, and hiring alignment. This role enables delivery leaders to focus on execution quality while ensuring consultants are supported, deployable, and aligned to business needs.
Specific responsibilities include:
- People Management & Career Stewardship
- Serve as the primary people manager for consulting staff, owning performance management, feedback, promotion input, and compensation recommendations
- Provide coaching and guidance focused on effectiveness, skill growth, and long-term role fit
- Establish and reinforce clear role expectations and success criteria across consulting roles
- Recruiting & Workforce Readiness
- Own consulting recruiting, including role profiles, hiring plans, and interview consistency
- Partner with consulting leadership to align hiring to delivery demand and future growth
- Support onboarding and ensure predictable time-to-productivity for new hires
- Professional Development & Upskilling
- Own professional development planning and skill readiness across the consulting organization
- Partner with Practice Leads and Delivery leadership to identify and address capability gaps
- Performance Consistency & Retention
- Lead fair and consistent performance review processes
- Monitor engagement and retention risk, intervening early where appropriate
- Protect stable long-term individual contributor roles and reduce avoidable attrition
This position is remote, but candidates must be within reasonable distance of a major US airport.
Candidates should expect 10-15% travel as meeting team members in person.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in consulting, professional services, or enterprise software environments
- 3+ years in people management, professional development, or consulting leadership roles
- Demonstrated experience overseeing end-to-end delivery of complex software implementations, including scope, schedule, financial performance, risk, and customer satisfaction
- Strong understanding of consulting delivery models and project-based staffing.
- Proven ability to manage performance and career conversations with credibility and fairness.
- Experience partnering with delivery and practice leadership in matrixed organizations.
- Comfortable operating in a matrixed professional services organization, balancing competing priorities and maintaining delivery accountability across teams
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required; advanced degree a plus
