Job Description

Viral Video Clip Creator – Social Media (Volunteer)

Note: This is a remote, part-time volunteer position. Please do not apply if you are only seeking paid employment.

Help drive visibility through short-form video storytelling that gets noticed.

We’re looking for a Viral Video Clip Creator to help us launch a new initiative aimed at posting quick, compelling video content — the kind that sparks interest and builds traction online. If you’re plugged into current events, have an eye for viral moments, and enjoy quick-turn creative work, we’d love to work with you.

Who We Are

WhoWhatWhy is a nonprofit investigative news organization producing deep-dive journalism on the most pressing issues of our time. We’re powered by skilled volunteers and a small core staff — from students to seasoned pros — who believe in ethical, independent journalism free from corporate or political influence.

About the Role

As a Viral Video Clip Creator, you’ll:

  • Watch live or recorded news clips to identify strong social content opportunities

  • Pull and trim short video moments (10–90 seconds) for use on social platforms

  • Add captions, commentary, or overlays to enhance shareability

  • Collaborate with teammates to ensure consistent branding and tone

  • Work closely with contributors like Araya, Tracey, and Jason to test and refine the concept

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong instincts for what captures attention on social media

  • Comfort with basic video editing tools (CapCut, Descript, iMovie, etc.)

  • Interest in political media, storytelling, and audience engagement

  • Proactive and self-directed — able to flag moments worth amplifying

  • Bonus if you have experience posting viral content or working in fast-paced creative roles

What You’ll Gain

  • A chance to shape a high-visibility video content initiative

  • Real-world content creation and collaboration experience

  • Flexible, remote work with a creative and mission-driven team

  • Portfolio-building work that showcases both creativity and news awareness

Commitment

We ask for a commitment of 5–7 hours per week and a minimum of 6 months. Flexible scheduling, though some availability during peak news hours is a plus.

How to Apply

Please send:

  • Your resume or LinkedIn profile

  • A short note telling us why this role interests you

  • Optional: A link to previous video work (especially social content)

To confirm that you’ve read this description, include the phrase “Committed to the Mission” and the result of 12 ÷ 3 somewhere in your message.

If you can’t attach your note, email it to [email protected]. Check your spam folder — responses sometimes land there.
