Job Description

Lead Field Engineer

ABOUT THE JOB

Company Intro: TurbineOne is a fast-moving and high-performance startup with a mission to strengthen situational awareness for all Americans serving at our nation’s frontlines - and we are backed by the best DefenseTech venture capitalists. Our Frontline Perception System is an edge-first software platform that allows anyone, even with no technical knowledge, to build and use machine learning models within a comms-contested tactical environment.

This role serves as a technical and operational leader for field integrations, helping shape how TurbineOne deploys, scales, and supports FPS in operational environments. The Field Integration Engineer plays a key role in organizing integration efforts, implementing tooling and workflows, and enabling field teams and customers to execute reliably and repeatedly.

Job Title: Lead Field Engineer

  • Reporting to: Engineering Operations Manager
  • Location: Geographically flexible for home-office with frequent travel required

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a technical lead for field integration efforts, helping define and standardize how FPS is deployed, integrated, and supported across customer environments.
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of field engineering tooling, scripts, and integration workflows.
  • Identify gaps in integration processes and help implement scalable solutions that improve repeatability, reliability, and deployment speed.
  • Partner with engineering, product, and customer success teams to translate field requirements into actionable implementation patterns and tooling.
  • Support the operational readiness of field personnel by developing documentation, deployment guides, and integration playbooks.
  • Conduct on-site assessments to evaluate customer infrastructure and inform integration strategies and tooling needs.
  • Develop and maintain integration plans, timelines, and technical documentation that guide execution across engagements.
  • Provide hands-on technical support during deployments, serving as an escalation point for complex integration challenges.
  • Gather and synthesize field feedback to inform improvements to FPS capabilities, integration approaches, and internal tooling.
  • Help ensure successful deployments by proactively identifying risks and assisting in resolution of integration issues.

On a Typical Day You Would:

  • Build, provision, and configure FPS deployments using standardized tooling and repeatable workflows.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to align integration requirements with established implementation approaches.
  • Design, document, and refine integration processes that can be reused across similar customer environments.
  • Develop or improve scripts (JavaScript, Python, Go, Bash) that enable data routing, automation, and integration reliability.
  • Deploy and configure FPS on-site or remotely, validating integration performance and stability.
  • Support and enable field-facing personnel and customers through documentation, training materials, and technical guidance.
  • Provide technical input into improving field tooling, deployment automation, and integration diagnostics.
  • Troubleshoot complex integration issues and contribute lessons learned back into process and tooling improvements.

Desired Experience and Attributes:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical execution and implementation.
  • Experience designing or improving operational processes, tooling, or workflows in field or production environments.
  • Strong systems-thinking mindset with an interest in making complex integrations repeatable and scalable.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and influence technical direction through expertise and execution.
  • Comfort operating as a technical owner in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

Eligibility:

  • Must be eligible to obtain a clearance with the U.S. government.
