Job Description

About Dash0

Join Dash0 and help us define the future of observability. We are OpenTelemetry-native, building a delightful, simple, and AI-centric platform that eliminates vendor lock-in and meaningless toil. Shape a product that developers love—all with transparent pricing and cost-control built in.

The Opportunity

Dash0 is looking for a Staff Product Engineer to lead the architectural vision of our backend, joining our Intelligent Edge team. You'll extend the OpenTelemetry Collector with capabilities that reduce vast amounts of telemetry data intelligently — helping customers cut through the noise of large-scale OpenTelemetry installations.

This is a role where architectural decisions shape the trajectory of our platform for years. You won't just write code; you'll own the technical roadmap for our ingestion and processing pipelines, drive economic efficiency in our data infrastructure, and act as a force multiplier for the engineers around you.

What You'll Do

  • Provide technical leadership for our core ingestion and processing pipelines, anticipating future bottlenecks and ensuring systems scale smoothly

  • Process and manipulate telemetry data at scale, avoiding single points of failure while delivering novel approaches to telemetry volume management

  • Own platform reliability — proactively identifying risks before they become incidents and fostering a security-first culture

  • Define standards for code quality, testing, and observability across the team

  • Mentor engineers, review PRDs for technical feasibility, and simplify complex designs to align with product goals

  • Collaborate with product teams to evaluate feasibility and resource efficiency, ensuring we deliver value to customers economically

  • Contribute to our own engineering observability practices — we use OpenTelemetry on ourselves

What You Bring

  • Deep architectural expertise in building and scaling distributed backend systems using Go, with the ability to clearly explain trade-offs between different patterns

  • Solid knowledge of Kafka and messaging systems, with the creativity to design efficient solutions for high-throughput scenarios

  • A track record of leveraging AI and agentic coding tools to accelerate development, while applying deep technical judgment to verify and own the final output

  • Strong product and economic thinking — you don't just build features, you evaluate feasibility and resource efficiency alongside product teams

  • Proven ability as a mentor and cultural leader, with a history of improving team processes and elevating the quality of work around you

  • Expertise in OpenTelemetry and monitoring — you live and breathe observability

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on experience with the OpenTelemetry Collector or similar telemetry pipeline tools

  • Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms at scale

  • Open-source contributions to observability or distributed systems projects

  • Experience in a high-growth, venture-backed startup environment

Dash0 is backed by top-tier investors including Balderton Capital, Accel and Cherry Ventures and led by a founding team with decades of experience in observability.
