Job Description

Who are we and why should you join us?

BetterHelp is on a mission to remove the traditional barriers to therapy and make mental health care more accessible to everyone. Founded in 2013, we are now the world’s largest online therapy service – providing affordable and convenient therapy in 210 countries and over 60 languages across the globe. Our network of over 30,000 licensed therapists has helped millions of people take ownership of their mental health and change their lives forever. And we’re not stopping there – as the unmet need for mental health services continues to grow, BetterHelp is committed to being part of the solution.

There's a huge opportunity to make mental wellness a daily practice, and we have many ideas on how to be the de facto platform to make that possible. We are looking for people who are as passionate about the health and wellness space as we are and want to have a huge impact.

The Therapist and BetterHelp for Business (BHB) Experience teams build tools and workflows that help therapists run their practice and help partners deliver mental health support at scale. These experiences are content heavy and touch sensitive, often regulated areas. Clear, consistent copy is critical to doing this well.

What are we looking for?

BetterHelp is looking for a mid-level UX Content Designer who will be embedded with our Therapist and BetterHelp for Business Experience teams. In this role, you’ll own in-product copy across key therapist and BHB workflows, shape the content strategy for how we explain new features and changes, and write product-driven emails and in-app communications in close partnership with Product Management and Marketing. You’re comfortable working at the intersection of product, design, and marketing—able to move seamlessly from microcopy in a critical flow to a launch email that explains what changed and why it matters. You’ll report into the Product Design organization and collaborate closely with PMs, designers, research, clinical, and marketing partners.

What will you do?

  • Write clear, concise UX copy for therapist and BetterHelp for Business workflows, including onboarding, scheduling, documentation, payouts, safety, compliance, and partner tools.
  • Partner with PMs to translate product requirements and constraints into simple, user-friendly experiences and content.
  • Create and maintain reusable content patterns that improve consistency and speed.
  • Own the content for product transactional emails and in-product announcements related to Therapist and BHB surfaces.
  • Help define the message, audience, and success criteria for product communications in collaboration with PM and marketing.
  • Use research, data, and experimentation (A/B tests, content experiments) to refine copy and communication strategies.
  • Collaborate with clinical stakeholders to incorporate their expertise in a way that is accurate, understandable, and aligned with our tone and voice.
  • Maintain alignment with marketing and brand guidelines while advocating for clarity and usability in product.
  • Contribute to our content design system and documentation, especially for therapist and BHB patterns.
  • Help teammates improve the quality of the copy they write by giving feedback and simple frameworks they can use.

What will you NOT do?

  • You will NOT worry about "runway", "cash left", or "how much time we have until the next round". We have the startup DNA but we're fully backed and funded, all the way to success.
  • You will NOT be confined to your "job". You will get involved in product, marketing, business strategy, and almost everything we do.
  • You will NOT be bogged down by office politics, ego, or bad attitude. Only positive, pleasure-to-work-with people are allowed here!
  • You will NOT get yourself burned out. We work hard but we believe in maintaining a sustainable work/life balance. Really.

Can I work remotely?

Yes. We operate on PST and candidates in any time zone are welcome to apply. We ask employees to travel to our San Jose, CA office up to three times per year plus one company-wide offsite to collaborate in person and strengthen working relationships. Travel expenses are covered and reasonable accommodations are made for those under unique circumstances who cannot travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in UX writing, content design, product copywriting, or related roles for digital products.
  • Portfolio with examples of in-product copy and, ideally, product-driven emails or feature announcements.
  • Experience working with product teams in an agile environment.
  • Experience collaborating closely with designers in tools like Figma.
  • Experience in highly regulated or sensitive domains (healthcare, finance, etc), or a strong interest in learning.

Bonus (nice to have):

  • Experience working on B2B2C or marketplace products.
  • Experience partnering with product marketing, or operating in a PMM-like capacity for a product area.
  • Familiarity with experimentation methods, such as A/B testing.
  • Experience with content systems, design systems, or reusable content patterns.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and how they apply to content.
  • Comfort using AI tools to accelerate content exploration and iteration while maintaining high quality.

Benefits

  • Remote work with regular in-person bonding experiences sponsored by the company
  • Competitive compensation
  • Holistic perks program (including free therapy, employee wellness, and more)
  • Excellent health, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401k benefits with employer matching contribution
  • The chance to build something that changes lives – and that people love
  • Any piece of hardware or software that will make you happy and productive
  • An awesome community of co-workers
