Role Overview

The Country Manager will spearhead our client’s operations and growth in South Africa which may be extended to other African countries in future. This pivotal role demands a strategic leader adept at navigating regulatory landscapes, driving market expansion, and fostering key partnerships. The Country Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Legal, Marketing, Product, and Operations—to ensure compliance, elevate brand presence, and achieve sustainable business success.

Requirements

  • Must meet regulatory fit and proper requirements.
  • Relevant qualification recognized by the FSCA for key individuals and representatives of financial services providers.
  • Successful completion of RE1 and RE5 examinations will be advantageous.
  • Prior appointment as a key individual of an FSP will be advantageous.
  • 8+ years of experience in fintech, payments, banking, crypto assets or related sectors, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role or management role.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of crypto assets, structures, and exchanges.
  • Understanding of local financial regulations and compliance (financial services/payments/fintech industry).
  • Proven success in business management, development, strategic partnerships, and scaling operations.
  • Experience in brand management, marketing, and public relations will be advantageous.
  • Established network with banks, regulators, payment providers, and industry leaders will be advantageous.
  • Fluency in English

    

Responsibilities

   

Regulatory Compliance & Governance

  • Serve as the local director, ensuring full adherence to local regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Serve as the appointed key individual on our client’s Category I FSP licence, bearing regulatory responsibility for managing and overseeing all financial services activities rendered by our client in terms of the FAIS Act or other applicable regulation.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local regulators, policymakers, and financial industry bodies.
  • Oversee licensing applications and regulatory engagements, working closely with the Legal and Compliance teams.
  • Ensure all operations comply with local laws and company policies.

     

Partnership & Channel Management

  • Identify, negotiate, and secure partnerships with local banks, payment processors, and financial institutions.
  • Collaborate with the Product team to optimize product integrations and performance.
  • Nurture relationships with existing partners to drive long-term collaboration and growth.

     

Business Development & Revenue Growth

  • Lead initiatives to increase user acquisition, market share, and revenue for our client’s offerings in South Africa.
  • Work with the Operations team to enhance local service delivery and customer satisfaction, ensuring alignment with Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles.
  • Conduct market and competitor analysis to uncover expansion opportunities within the local crypto and fintech landscape.
  • Develop and execute local go-to-market (GTM) strategies for new product launches.
