The ideal candidate will have strong messaging and product marketing experience, experience leading agencies and internal teams, and a solid understanding of the electric vehicle space and fleet applications.
In this role, you will own CALSTART's external brand marketing narrative, ensuring consistent, differentiated messaging across all channels, while leading development of value propositions, audience personas, and positioning that resonate with executives, fleets, policymakers, vendors, and partners. You will direct and coordinate integrated marketing programs spanning content strategy, demand generation, digital, events, PR, and brand management, and collaborate with senior leadership to translate complex technical concepts into clear, executive-ready communications.
Success in this role requires the ability to manage and influence external agencies and internal cross-functional teams while operating effectively with limited staff, all while ensuring consistency with CALSTART's mission, impact metrics, and policy and advocacy initiatives.
What You'll Do:
Messaging and Positioning:
-
Develop and maintain clear, differentiated messaging for CALSTART's brand, programs, and solutions.
-
Create compelling value propositions for multiple audience segments (fleets, OEMs/technology providers, policymakers, funders, researchers, and media).
-
Translate complex technical and policy concepts into concise, accessible language suitable for executives and broad audiences.
Product and Solutions Marketing:
-
Lead corporate marketing efforts, including brand features and potential brand relaunch effort featuring storytelling, competitive analysis, and market requirements.
-
Collaborate with program leaders to define go-to-market plans for key initiatives and partnerships that enhance the CALSTART brand.
Audience Research and Personas:
-
Develop and continuously refine audience personas, mapping user journeys across digital, events, and PR channels.
-
Use qualitative and quantitative insights to inform messaging and channel strategy.
Website and Content Strategic Collaboration:
-
Collaborate with web, content, initiatives, and policy teams to develop messaging architecture that maximizes brand impact and storytelling.
-
Partner with the Head of Web Marketing to showcase brand value, solutions, and outcomes, ensuring clear differentiation and compelling product and solution storytelling.
Brand and Corporate Communications:
-
Maintain brand standards across all touchpoints; oversee external communications, press materials, executive briefs, and speaking roles.
-
Partner with PR to secure media coverage and thought leadership opportunities for CALSTART's leadership and programs.
Agency and Vendor Management:
-
Participate in selecting, managing, and briefing marketing agencies and consultants; ensure deliverables meet quality, scope, and budget requirements.
-
Build internal processes to track progress, approvals, and outcomes; maintain an efficient, collaborative operating rhythm.
Measurement and Governance:
-
Define and track brand marketing metrics, dashboards, and reporting; tie marketing results to organizational outcomes and policy impact.
-
Ensure compliance with branding, data privacy, and accessibility standards.
What You'll Bring to the Table:
-
Bachelor's degree required; MBA or master's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field a plus.
-
12 to 15+ years in marketing leadership roles with strong emphasis on messaging, product/solutions marketing, and storytelling. Experience in B2B, B2B2C, or mission-driven organizations is a plus.
-
Working knowledge of the electric vehicle space is required. Familiarity with the fleet industry is a plus.
-
Exceptional written and verbal communication; ability to translate complex concepts into clear, executive-ready language
-
Proven ability to develop and manage brand messaging, value propositions, and multiple audience personas
-
Strong project management and process orientation
