Job Description
How many testers does it take to change a light bulb?
Answer: None; we only find the problems, we don't fix them.
Our client provides enterprise-class managed data center services. They have around 70 datacenters servicing 29 different markets, and we can't disclose their clients – but think about any significant industry player from hyperscalers, banks, healthcare and social media platforms, and they're likely in their CRM. They seek a Lead QA Engineer to spearhead their quality assurance initiatives.
You'll oversee nine QAs working across multiple Scrum teams while collaborating closely with four automation engineers. As a hands-on technical leader, you'll be an active contributor within a Scrum team while guiding quality assurance strategy across the organization. This position focuses on delivering robust testing solutions for complex software applications using modern automation frameworks and AI-enhanced testing tools.
The ideal candidate will establish and maintain comprehensive test automation frameworks, lead QA professionals in an Agile environment, and drive the adoption of cutting-edge testing practices including AI-assisted automation.
Core Functions:
- Architect and implement scalable test automation solutions using modern technologies, particularly Playwright (primary focus) and Selenium with C#
- Oversee and support nine QAs across multiple Scrum teams
- Collaborate with four automation engineers to align testing strategies and frameworks
- Drive quality assurance best practices through leadership and mentorship
- Automate test cases within sprints using modern tools including Claude AI and Playwright
- Orchestrate end-to-end testing strategies, including functional, regression, and performance testing
- Champion continuous integration practices by integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
- Foster collaboration between development, product, and QA teams to ensure optimal test coverage
- Analyze test results, document issues, and coordinate resolution efforts
- Establish and track key quality metrics to drive continuous improvement
- Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to improve test automation quality
Ideal Profile:
- Experienced QA professional with 6-8+ years of automation expertise, particularly in C# and Selenium environments
- Strong expertise in Playwright
- Proven track record of building and scaling test automation frameworks
- Experience with AI tools for testing (e.g., Claude AI, ChatGPT) is a strong plus
- Strong background in CI/CD implementation, utilizing tools like Jenkins, Azure DevOps, TeamCity, or GitLab CI
- Expertise in database testing and SQL
- Hands-on experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Demonstrated leadership ability with experience in guiding QA team members
- Advanced problem-solving skills with a focus on complex automation challenges
Technical Proficiencies:
- Playwright (primary)
- Selenium with C# (essential)
- Test automation frameworks (TestComplete, Appium, SpecFlow)
- AI-enhanced testing tools (Claude AI, ChatGPT)
- Visual Studio and MS Test
- Version control systems, particularly Git
- Database querying and testing with SQL
- CI/CD pipeline integration
- Performance and security testing expertise (preferred)
Additional Requirements:
- Professional certifications such as CSTE or ISTQB are a plus
- Must be available during Central Time Zone hours (6 AM to 2 PM CST)
- Strong communication skills in both written and verbal forms
- Self-motivated with high accountability and ownership mentality
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced Agile Scrum environment with sprint-based delivery
- Experience working with distributed teams and stakeholders
The successful candidate will join a forward-thinking team that recently transitioned from Selenium to Playwright and has embraced AI-enhanced testing practices. You'll have the opportunity to shape testing strategies while working with cutting-edge technologies, mentoring a growing QA team, and delivering high-quality software solutions in an innovative Agile environment. This role offers the perfect balance for experienced QA professionals who want to stay technically hands-on while developing their leadership capabilities.
