Job Description

About the Company

At Torc, we have always believed that autonomous vehicle technology will transform how we travel, move freight, and do business.

A leader in autonomous driving since 2007, Torc has spent over a decade commercializing our solutions with experienced partners. Now a part of the Daimler family, we are focused solely on developing software for automated trucks to transform how the world moves freight.

Join us and catapult your career with the company that helped pioneer autonomous technology, and the first AV software company with the vision to partner directly with a truck manufacturer.

Meet the Team

As a Senior Simulation & Scenario Validation Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring Torc’s autonomous driving system is being tested against the right scenarios, not just more scenarios.

You’ll operate at a systems level, working closely with simulation, autonomy, safety, and validation teams to assess scenario coverage, evaluate simulation effectiveness, and provide confidence that our autonomy stack is being exercised across safety-critical behaviors and operational domains.

This is not a scenario authoring or content-creation role. Instead, it is a validation, coverage, and judgment-focused role, centered on answering: Are we validating the right things, in the right way, at the right level of rigor?

What You’ll Do

  • Evaluate simulation-based validation strategies to ensure coverage of safety-critical behaviors across the ODD
  • Assess scenario libraries and simulation inputs to identify gaps, redundancies, and risk exposure
  • Analyze simulation results and validation data to understand system behavior, robustness, and failure modes
  • Partner with simulation and autonomy teams to guide scenario selection and prioritization
  • Correlate simulation evidence with real-world driving data to assess fidelity and coverage
  • Provide high-level validation insights that inform safety cases, readiness reviews, and deployment decisions
  • Recommend improvements to simulation workflows, metrics, and validation methodologies
  • Serve as a senior technical voice on validation strategy, mentoring engineers and influencing best practices

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 6+ years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience OR PhD with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • 5+ years of experience in autonomous systems, robotics, automotive, or safety-critical software domains
  • Strong background in simulation, scenario validation, V&V, safety validation, or systems verification
  • Proven ability to think at a systems level and assess what should be tested, not just how
  • Experience interpreting large-scale simulation or validation datasets
  • Strong analytical skills using Python and common data analysis tools
  • Comfortable collaborating across engineering, safety, and validation organizations
  • Clear communicator able to translate technical findings into actionable insight

Bonus Points!

  • Experience with autonomous vehicle simulation or scenario-based validation frameworks
  • Exposure to safety case development or regulatory validation evidence
  • Background in statistical validation, uncertainty analysis, or coverage metrics
  • Familiarity with correlating simulation results to real-world performance
  • Experience in trucking, highway autonomy, or large-scale vehicle systems

Work Location: For this position, we are open to hiring in either Ann Arbor, MI (U.S.) office work locations in a hybrid capacity. We are also open to hiring Remote in the United States.
