Role Overview: 
As our Animation Director, you will define and drive the animation vision for an unannounced project at VOID InteractiveThis is a senior, hands-on leadership role where you will help establish animation direction, pipelines, and quality standards from the ground up. 

You will oversee animation across gameplay systems and cinematic content, ensuring motion, timing, and presentation feel grounded, responsive, and high quality within a real-time, Unreal Engine 5 environment. This role requires both creative leadership and practical execution, guiding teams through early prototyping, production, and polish while maintaining a clear, cohesive animation vision. 

The ideal candidate thrives in early-stage development, is comfortable operating with ambiguity, and can build strong collaboration between animation, design, engineering, and production as the project and team scale. The role is fully remote directing a team spread across the globe, so flexibility is a must.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Establish and own the animation vision, style, and quality bar for a new, unannounced title. 
  • Lead and supervise gameplay and cinematic animation teams, providing clear direction, mentorship, and hands-on guidance. 
  • Direct and oversee motion capture shoots, ensuring captured performances translate effectively into real-time gameplay and cinematics. 
  • Collaborate closely with design and engineering to ensure animations support gameplay clarity, responsiveness, and player experience. 
  • Define animation pipelines, workflows, and best practices within Unreal Engine 5. 
  • Partner with production to scope animation work, plan milestones, and ensure sustainable delivery for a growing team. 
  • Review in-engine implementation to ensure animations meet quality, performance, and consistency targets. 
  • Communicate animation goals, risks, and progress clearly to studio leadership and cross-disciplinary stakeholders. 


Essential Requirements: 

  • Served as Animation Director on at least one shipped AAA product.
  • 6+ years in professional game animation, including leadership responsibilities. 
  • 3+ years contributing to FPS animation development. 
  • 3+ years directingmanaging or supervising MOCAP sessions. 
  • Hands-on animation experience with the ability to supervise both gameplay and cinematic teams. 
  • Strong ability to produce, review, and implement animation content. 
  • Strong experience working directly in Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5), with UE5 strongly preferred. 
  • Mandatory 6–8 years managing or supervising animation teams. 

Bonus Points: 

  • Previously served as Animation Director or Animation Lead on a First-Person Shooter. 
  • Experience standing up animation pipelines or teams on a new project. 
  • Familiarity with performance capture workflows and real-time animation systems. 
  • Experience collaborating closely with design, engineering, and cinematics during early development phases.
  • Located close to or in Los Angeles, or able to travel there often.
