Job Description

Category: Design & Multimedia
Subcategory: 3D Models
What You Need: 2 to 6 pieces

About The Role:

We are a direct-to-consumer e-commerce furniture brand producing a high volume of product visuals that need to look realistic - not like CGI.

We are looking for a production-ready 3D artist who can model clean furniture assets and render photorealistic scenes on a consistent weekly cadence.

This is not a concept art role - the focus is on repeatable, high-quality production work.

What You Will Do:

  • Create accurate 3D furniture models from CAD, 2D drawings, dimensions, and photo references
  • Build production ready materials and shaders for upholstery, leather, wood, metal, glass, stone
  • Light and render photoreal packshots and lifestyle scenes that match our brand style
  • Assemble scenes with correct scale, camera lens realism, and believable styling
  • Maintain and organize our 3D asset library with clear naming and version control
  • Support designers with modeling and rendering requests, including fast revisions
  • Deliver files in a format our team can reuse and update later

Core Deliverables (per week, based on workload):

  • New models or model updates for new launches
  • Packshot renders on white and transparent background
  • Lifestyle scene renders with consistent lighting and composition
  • Material library updates and reusable scene templates
  • Source files plus final exports

Tools & Technical Requirements:

  • Advanced in 3Ds Max with V Ray or Corona
  • Strong poly modeling and clean topology
  • Advanced material creation, UVs, and texture workflows
  • Strong HDRI and studio lighting setups
  • Post production in Photoshop, plus basic color and realism polish
  • Ability to work from real world measurements and hit scale accuracy

AI Expectations:

  • We expect you to use AI tools daily to move faster without sacrificing quality.
  • You should be comfortable using AI for reference gathering and mood boards
  • Scene and camera composition ideation
  • Material and texture iteration workflows
  • Quality checks and consistency checks across a batch
  • Writing clear handoff notes and change logs
  • Automating repetitive steps where possible

Nice To Have:

  • Furniture experience
  • AR or VR pipeline familiarity
  • Substance painter or designer
  • Marvelous designer for soft goods or draping
  • Basic blender fluency if needed for handoff

What Good Looks Like:

  • Your renders hold up next to product photography
  • Materials look right at close zoom
  • Wood grain direction is correct
  • Metal roughness looks real
  • Lighting feels like a real studio
  • You deliver on time and you do not miss details

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2 plus years producing photoreal product renders
  • Portfolio with furniture or hard surface product work
  • Can handle multiple projects and tight deadlines
  • Strong file hygiene and self management

Working Style

Async is fine. You must overlap 2 to 3 hours per week with Pacific Standard Time for reviews.
You must be able to take feedback and iterate fast.

Compensation
Monthly retainer or hourly, based on output and skill.
Include your expected rate and availability.

How to apply

  2. Your tools and workflow
